Dandi Daley Mackall is the author of over 400 books for children. Her first big story was “Why I Want to Be Batboy for the Kansas City A’s,” written when she was a 10-year-old tomboy. Although the story won first place, the team wouldn’t let a girl be batboy. Dandi tells this true story in A Girl Named Dan, a picture book released in 2008. In 2012, her book The Silence of Murder won the Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery. Dandi loves animals and lives in West Salem.
