Charity Pleasant’s Memoir Inspires Action Through Optimism and Honesty

In her heartfelt memoir, Why Should You Care: Real Life Encouragement From Real Life Experiences, Charity Pleasant invites readers into her life’s journey—a tapestry woven with joy, hardship, and resilience. Through candid storytelling and a “glass half full” perspective, Pleasant encourages readers to confront their emotions and transform reflection into meaningful action.

She acknowledges that maintaining a positive outlook isn’t always easy. “The sun sets on the just and unjust,” she says with a knowing smile. “You must train and retrain the mind to pause and look hard sometimes.”

One of the book’s most poignant chapters, Love, Hate, and Other Things, explores the raw realities of motherhood—from the vulnerability of leaving a newborn in someone else’s care to the pride of watching her teenage son grow into a strong, independent young man. Pleasant’s reflections are deeply personal, yet universally relatable.

Beyond parenting, the memoir delves into weighty topics such as civic responsibility, inequality, and personal growth. Pleasant’s mission is clear: to spark thought and inspire change. “I want to provoke thought and change by expressing what I think others may have rolling around in their minds too,” she explains. “And I want to move people from thought to action. This book is part of my move to action.”

While writing fuels her passion, Pleasant also juggles a career as a cosmetologist, motherhood, and community involvement. “I’m always doing three to four things at a time,” she laughs. “And I enjoy beating the myth that multitasking doesn’t work.” She relies on three planners to stay organized, though she admits that sometimes a ball gets dropped.

Her approach to life is grounded in grace and self-compassion. “I don’t stress over things I miss. We all need to go easier on ourselves and take time for self,” she says. Her recharge rituals include a good cup of coffee or a quick TV break—then she’s back in motion.

Pleasant hopes her readers will take tangible steps toward growth: make a checklist, set goals, and reflect. “It doesn’t have to be long term,” she advises. “Just begin the journey.” She also encourages others to write about their own experiences, believing that storytelling is a powerful tool for healing and connection.

Why Should You Care offers more than encouragement—it’s a roadmap for finding meaning in life’s highs and lows. Through her honest voice and unwavering optimism, Charity Pleasant reminds us that every experience holds value.
