Welcome to The Buckeye Bookmark—Where Stories, Authors, and Readers Come Together.
Though our newsletter has a new name, it’s still your trusted source for all things Buckeye Book Fair. In this issue, we’re diving into stories that celebrate the power of books, creativity, and community.
We’re proud to feature an in-depth interview with Terri Libenson, bestselling creator of the Emmie & Friends series. Terri joined us last year at the Young Authors Conference, where she inspired hundreds of young writers and illustrators with her honesty, humor, and creative spark. We’ll also climb into the WAY BACK MACHINE to see the video of when she presented at the Buckeye Book Fair 35th Anniversary. Her reflections offer a meaningful look at the art of writing for—and listening to—young people.
You’ll also be introduced to Dr. Jillian Scudder, an astrophysicist whose passion for the cosmos is both deeply informed and wonderfully approachable. With a Ph.D. focused on how galactic collisions shape star formation and chemical composition, Dr. Scudder brings the mysteries of the universe within reach. Her writing reflects a rare blend of curiosity, clarity, and connection that invites readers of all backgrounds to engage with science.
It’s not too late to register for the 2025 Buckeye Book Camp! Young writers and illustrators in grades 5–8 can still join us for a week of creativity, connection, and inspiration. Held each summer in Wooster, Book Camp offers hands-on workshops led by published authors and illustrators, collaborative projects, and plenty of time to write, draw, and dream. Spots are filling quickly, so don’t miss this chance to be part of something unforgettable—register today!
And don’t forget—September 1 is the big reveal of our 2025 Buckeye Book Fair lineup! With the fair set for November 1, now’s the perfect time to mark the date and cancel anything that conflicts with the Buckeye Book Fair. You won’t want to miss the author panels, book signings, scavenger hunts, kids crafts, and literary fun for all ages.
Want to help bring it all to life? Volunteer with us! Whether you’re welcoming guests, assisting with family activities, or helping behind the scenes, there’s a place for you in this story.
Thanks for reading—and for being part of Ohio’s thriving book-loving community.
