Literacy Awards

The Buckeye Book Fair offers three types of Literacy Awards. This program makes it possible for us to support to Ohio reading programs, Ohio public and community libraries, and Ohio school librarians, teachers, and students.

Tricia Springstubb visits Brunswick Middle School to reward the over 560 students who read more than 380,500 minutes in the Medina County Public Library Brunswick Branch’s Summer Reading Program. Click here to see the article from the Medina Gazette.
  • Excellence Awards – This award is distributed to students excelling in the Buckeye Book Fair’s Spring Writing Challenge. Teachers can download applications for Excellence Awards through the Tri-County Educational Service Center in April each year. The submissions are due at the end of September. Please email us (buckeyebookfair@gmail.com) if you’re interested in the application process for 2023 Excellence Awards.
  • Book Awards – Buckeye Book Fair loves to help libraries get more books. If you would like to apply for a Book Award please complete the application. Click here to download the application.
  • Author & Illustrator Award – When students have an opportunity to meet an author in person it can be life changing. The authors and illustrators of Buckeye Book Fair are available for school, club, and library presentations. Click here to download the application.

In evaluating applications to determine the award recipients, the Buckeye Book Fair Literacy Awards Committee will consider the impact of the project, the financial need of the applicant, and evidence of careful planning in preparing the project.

The deadline for applications is 60 days prior to the event. Winners will be notified by email after December 15th annually.

Please provide photos, publicity, and videos documenting the award’s impact within 90 days after completing your project.

At the annual Buckeye Book Fair, nearly 100 Ohio authors, illustrators, and photographers will meet readers and sign their latest works. More than 300 different titles—from all genres and for all ages—will be for sale, including many books on Ohio topics.
