Finding Sutton’s Choice is Brenda Haas’s first novel set on the shores of Lake Erie in
Lakeside, Ohio. The story centers on Charlotte Sutton and her estranged father of ten
years, a former professional baseball player. Charlotte returns to Lakeside ten years
later after a mysterious phone call about her father to discover he has Alzheimer’s.

In the telling of the story, it moves between Charlotte’s past and present filling in the
descriptive details of the storyline with depth and emotion. From the beginning the story introduces the characters show are old and new to Charlotte allowing the reader to connect with these characters immediately. The story holds the readers’ attention all the way through the book provides closure to the story and a look ten years later as to how the characters are continuing in this story.

The author creates descriptive visuals of a lake front small town with interesting
characters. The story provides a sense of community, family history, and family
struggles that are reflective of family everywhere. As with many this story presents
family dynamics and experiences of dealing with a parent with Alheimer’s. But this is a story about coping with the needs that many multigenerational families are dealing with today.

In Finding Sutton’s Choice, Brenda Haas has created a descriptive and interesting story for all readers. If you have ever been to Lakeside on the Lake Erie shores, it is a bonus to the story. Hopefully we will be seeing a second novel by Brenda’s out soon!
