Let’s be honest. Between work, kids, activities, endless notifications, and trying to figure out what’s for dinner every night, finding something genuinely fun for the whole family can feel impossible.
That’s exactly why the Buckeye Book Crawl has become one of those hidden Ohio gems that deserves a spot on your calendar.
Now in its sixth year, the Buckeye Book Crawl has spent the week turning local businesses into literary destinations.
And after four fantastic stops, everything builds toward the Buckeye Book Fair and Super Comics Challenge Game Show on Saturday.
Monday: Cleveland Sports Heartbreak, Hope, and One Very Dedicated Browns Fan
The Crawl kicked off Monday evening at Minglewood Distilling Company with author Dave Eifert and his fascinating book The Cleveland Curse.

If you’ve ever spent years yelling at the television during football season, this book was your kind of fan fiction.
Actually, scratch that…
We’re convinced that sports fan fiction may be the greatest genre nobody talks about.
A lifelong Browns fan, Eifert sacrificed nearly a decade compiling the historical connections between Cleveland sports and major public events. His book doesn’t just follow the Browns. It also weaves in the stories of the Indians and Cavaliers, creating a uniquely Cleveland narrative that examines decades of triumph, heartbreak, and everything in between.
Tuesday: Ohio’s Most Shocking Crimes of Passion
Tuesday evening shifted gears entirely as Grigio Wine & Cocktail Bar opened its doors for an unforgettable conversation with author Wendy Koile.
Koile explored some of Northern Ohio’s most notorious true crimes of passion, stories where love curdled into obsession and relationships ended in tragedy. From the Phantom-Flapper Killer in Canton to shocking cases in Toledo, Medina, and Cleveland, attendees learned how real-life events can often be stranger than fiction.
These aren’t stories pulled from a streaming documentary series. They happened right here in Ohio.

Wednesday: The Ohio Road Trip Book Everyone Suddenly Wants
On Wednesday, author Brandy Gleason stopped by Broken Rocks Café & Bakery, and the event felt more like a celebration than a book signing.

For one thing, Broken Rocks is actually featured in her book, Unique Eats and Eateries of Ohio.
Readers had the rare opportunity to purchase a copy and have it signed while sitting inside one of the very locations highlighted in its pages.
Thursday: The Astronaut History Almost Forgotten
Thursday evening brought one of the most moving conversations of the week as author Marlene Targ Brill discussed her biography, Judith Resnik: Unsung Astronaut.
Many people remember the Challenger disaster. Fewer remember Resnik herself.

Born in Akron, Judith Resnik became one of the most accomplished astronauts of her generation. She flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1984 and later joined the Challenger crew.
Brill’s book shines a light on an extraordinary Ohio woman whose story deserves to be remembered. The discussion sparked conversations about perseverance, science, women’s history, and the importance of recognizing people whose contributions have too often faded into the background.
And Now… The Main Event
If you’ve missed the first four stops, don’t panic.
The biggest day is still ahead.
Saturday is the Buckeye Book Fair.
Books for every age and interest. Food trucks. Conversations. Coffee. Creators. and…Cookies!
And, perhaps most importantly, a chance to create the memories. Buckeye is known for generations coming together year after year to meet the creators releasing new books.
Because while online shopping can deliver books to your doorstep, it can’t recreate the moment when a child meets an author, asks a question, gets a book signed, or discovers a story that makes them want to read all the way home.
But Wait… There’s a Game Show

At 12:00 PM, the energy kicks into overdrive when beloved Ohio teaching artist, cartoonist, and author Jerzy Drozd takes over the Fireplace Story Corner for the Super Comics Challenge Game Show.
This is not a sit-quietly-and-listen event.
It’s creative.
It’s delightfully ridiculous.
Families will join in drawing challenges, create bizarre creatures, collaborate with a professional cartoonist, and maybe even see surprise authors jump into the fun.
Think less “lecture” and more “Saturday morning chaos in the best possible way.”
For kids who love comics, drawing, graphic novels, creativity, or simply making people laugh, this is the kind of experience they’ll be talking about long after the Fair ends.
Last Chance to Plan…
Here’s the reality.
By Saturday afternoon, the 39th Annual Buckeye Book Fair will be over.
The authors will head home. The books will be packed up. The drawings will be finished. The conversations will become memories.
The only question is whether your family was part of it.
So put down the laundry for a few hours. Ignore the never-ending to-do list. Grab the kids, grab a friend, and come see what everyone has been talking about all week.
