Welcome to The Buckeye Bookmark ~ Where Stories, Authors, and Readers Come Together.
As autumn paints Ohio in its brilliant hues, we’re thrilled to share all the excitement that’s been unfolding at the Buckeye Book Fair and across our literary community. This edition of the Buckeye Bookmark is bursting with stories of creativity, inspiration, and celebration, perfect with a morning cup of coffee.
We’re kicking things off with a very special announcement: Brave & Bold: A Night of Stories with Shannon Hale will be Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Greystone Event Center, Wooster, Ohio. Gather the family for an unforgettable evening as we welcome New York Times bestselling author Shannon Hale. Her stories have inspired young people across the globe, reminding us all of the power in being true to ourselves. This enchanting night will also shine a spotlight on Ohio’s rising Young Authors, promising a celebration of imagination and storytelling you won’t want to miss. Be sure to get your tickets today.
Looking back on the summer, our community came alive with the joy of reading and creating. The library workshop with Merrill Rainy was a lively, hands-on experience, where students experimented with crafts, collaborated with peers, and saw their characters come to life. Soon after, Buckeye Book Camp ran from July 28–August 1 at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster, OH, offering students in grades 3–8 a transformative week-long journey into storytelling and bookmaking. This “boot camp” of creativity helped young writers and illustrators unlock their literary potential, laying the foundation for a bright future in Ohio’s literary community.
We also take a closer look at Karen Scholl’s debut book, Surviving Soccer: A Chill Parent’s Guide to Carpools, Calendars, Coaches, Club and Corner Kicks, a humorous and relatable guide for parents navigating the busy world of youth sports. Plus, the 2025 Buckeye Book Crawl returns in partnership with the Wayne County Public Library, with stops announced throughout the week leading up to the Buckeye Book Camp. Plan your trip now and be the first to get your hands on Jarod K. Anderson’s Ohioana Award Winning book Something in the Woods Loves Me and Ashley Willow’s latest Spicy Romance, Buck Me.
Show your support and become a Friend of the Buckeye Book Fair with the 2025 All Access T-Shirt Pass! This limited-edition t-shirt isn’t just a wearable celebration of Ohio’s literary tradition—it also unlocks exclusive perks and surprises during Book Fair Week: October 27–November 1, 2025.
Finally, we are humbled and grateful to announce that the Buckeye Book Fair has received three grants from the Ohio Arts Council. These awards are a testament to the strength of our community—you, our readers, sponsors, and friends—whose love of literacy and the arts keeps the Fair thriving year after year. Without you, none of this is possible.
And of course, we can’t wait to welcome the incredible authors and illustrators joining us for the 38th annual Buckeye Book Fair, Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Wooster, Ohio. The full list is revealed now!
From summer workshops to fall celebrations, the Buckeye Book Fair continues to be a place where stories come alive, imaginations soar, and communities connect. Thank you for being part of it all.
