Welcome to the July edition of Book Bits: Newsletter for the Buckeye Book Fair! We’re excited to take you behind the scenes of our vibrant literary community and share the latest updates, partnerships, and achievements that continue to make our event a cornerstone of Ohio’s literary landscape.
In this issue, we shine a spotlight on our enriching partnership with the College of Wooster, showcasing how this collaboration enhances our programs and extends our reach. You’ll also step into history with Scott H. Longert, who offers a compelling look at Ray Chapman in his newest book. Longert’s exploration of Chapman’s legacy, rooted in visits to Lakeview Cemetery, provides a poignant and inspiring narrative that transcends the world of baseball.
We are thrilled to introduce the Buckeye Book Camp, a transformative week-long experience designed for students in 3rd through 8th grades. This camp combines the rigor of a “Boot Camp” with the creativity of bookmaking, guiding young minds through the process of developing, writing, and illustrating their own stories. There are a few spots left for students 3rd through 8th grade to experience mentorship from industry professionals.
Additionally, our 2023 Annual Report highlights another successful year of celebrating Ohio’s literary talent and fostering a love for reading. Through strategic initiatives and robust community partnerships, we’ve achieved our programming goals and left a lasting impact on our community.
Lastly, mark your calendars for the 2024 Buckeye Book Fair! Join us at the Greystone Event Center in Wooster, Ohio, on Saturday, November 2nd, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. With only a few weeks left for authors and illustrators to submit their new releases, don’t miss this incredible opportunity to be part of Ohio’s premier literary event.

Each day, July 22nd – July 28th from 9am to 4pm, students will dive into the creative process. With Jerzy Drozd, the comic book maestro, Kori Frazier Morgan, editor for Inkling Creative, and Lillian Mazeika, the agent with a heart of gold, there’s no limit to what they can achieve! Guest Authors and Illustrators include Lindsay Bonilla, Florenza Lee, Katie Mazieka, and Merrill Rainey! What?! My child can study with them all?! YES! They will.
