Andy J. Pizza Provides Creative PepTalks!

The Buckeye Book Fair is passionately dedicated to fostering a love of reading and creativity across Ohio, with a special focus on promoting the work of Ohio authors and illustrators. However, this mission cannot be accomplished without the generous support of our donors. Both corporate and private contributions play a critical role in enabling us to deliver impactful literacy programming and educational experiences to communities throughout the state. These donations, combined with the proceeds from our book sales and the invaluable support of grant-making organizations, are what allow us to bring talented authors and illustrators directly into classrooms, inspiring the next generation of readers and creators.

The Buckeye Book Fair is thrilled to announce the receipt of a $4000 grant from the Arts Midwest Organization’s Grow, Invest, Gather (GIG) Fund.

This GIG Fund grant from Arts Midwest will significantly support our mission to promote Ohio authors and illustrators while enhancing our educational outreach initiatives. This significant boost will elevate Ohio’s literary voices. The GIG Fund is a vital resource for nonprofit organizations across the Midwest, offering financial assistance to bring professional artists into communities and support creative projects and educational events. With this grant, the Buckeye Book Fair will be able to host Andy J. Pizza, a renowned artist and creative educator from Columbus, Ohio, for a series of residencies in rural school districts.

During his residency, Andy will visit multiple school districts, conducting interactive workshops that encourage students to think creatively and express themselves through various art forms. These sessions will not only teach artistic skills but also emphasize the importance of resilience and self-acceptance. The residency will culminate in an after-school event where students will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic creations, reinforcing the lessons they’ve learned and allowing them to celebrate their achievements with their peers, teachers, and families.

The Buckeye Book Fair’s mission is to produce literacy projects that reach Ohioans of all ages and backgrounds, including those in rural and low-income communities who may have limited access to such enriching experiences.
