Buckeye Book Fair Receives Arts Midwest GIG Grant to Host Artist Residency in Ohio Rural Schools

Wooster, OH – The Buckeye Book Fair is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious GIG Grant from Arts Midwest. This funding will support an artist residency in rural Wayne, Ashland, and Holmes County schools, featuring celebrated artist, speaker, and educator Andy J. Pizza.

This year, Buckeye Book Fair attendees had the opportunity to meet Detective Kim Mager, whose gripping book, A Hunger to Kill, recounts her journey to bring Ohio serial killer Shawn Grate to justice. The book offers a rare glimpse into the complex and chilling work behind one of Ohio’s most notorious cases, and it was no surprise that readers were drawn to Mager’s story. Her presence at the Book Fair sparked unforgettable connections and inspiring conversations.

Amanda Flower’s latest historical mystery, To Slip the Bonds of Earth, offers readers a fascinating glimpse into the life of Katharine Wright, the lesser-known but remarkably influential sister of aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright. As the leaves start to turn, we are gearing up for an exciting season of literary events, book signings, and contests. With the Buckeye Book Fair just around the corner, we’re thrilled to introduce you to three outstanding authors, spotlight a dedicated volunteer, and share exciting details about the Buckeye Book Crawl and our Buckeye Book Fort Contest.

Volunteer Spotlight: Deb Jenkins

We’re excited to introduce Deb Jenkins, a new and incredibly dedicated volunteer with the Buckeye Book Fair. Deb’s connection with us actually began last year around this time when she introduced herself in our warehouse while working with D+S Distribution. For decades, D+S has been an essential partner to the fair, supporting our logistical needs by helping us receive, inventory, pack, and ship the 7,000 books we prepare each year. Without their fleet of trucks and consistent support, organizing the fair would be a much more challenging task.
