The Buckeye Book Camp 2024, held from July 22nd to July 26th at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster, Ohio, was a resounding success. This week-long event brought together young minds eager to dive into the world of storytelling, character creation, and comic book artistry. With a diverse range of activities and expert-led workshops, the camp provided an unforgettable experience for students in 3rd through 8th grades.

Andy J. Pizza Provides Creative PepTalks!

Andy J. Pizza is not only a bestselling author/illustrator but also the creator of the popular podcast Creative Pep Talk, where he shares his insights on creativity and personal growth. His workshops, such as “Find Your Style” and “Best Practices for Creative Practices,” are designed to inspire young learners to embrace their creativity and cultivate self-love. By blending music, theater, and illustration, Andy will guide students through a journey of self-discovery, helping them to see challenges as opportunities for growth and to develop a positive self-image.

Enhancing Accessibility and Literacy:

This year, we had the privilege of receiving a special Capacity Grant from the Ohio Arts Council (OAC), a grant specifically directed towards enhancing our organization’s ability to serve people with visible and invisible disabilities. Unlike unrestricted funds, OAC grants are aimed at achieving specific goals within an organization’s development, such as improving accessibility or partnering to help area students attend the Young Authors Conference. With this targeted support, we’ve taken significant steps to broaden our reach and make our events more inclusive.

Celebrating a Year of Literary Excellence:

The Buckeye Book Fair (BBF) is proud to present its 2023 Annual Report, showcasing another year of celebrating Ohio’s literary talent and fostering a love for reading across the state. Through strategic initiatives, robust community partnerships, and feedback-driven improvements, we met our six programming goals, leaving a lasting impact on our community.

Celebrating the Generosity of the Jim and Cindy Webster Charitable Fund

At the heart of the Buckeye Book Fair’s mission to promote literacy and foster a love of reading in young minds, we are profoundly grateful for the support of the Jim and Cindy Webster Charitable Fund. This generous fund, a component of the Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF), plays a pivotal role in helping us bring the joy of books to children across Ohio.
